Polo House Hotel is not simply a hotel. It is a destination rooted in the polo culture of the Santa Ynez Valley, a heritage of horses, open land, and easy elegance that shaped this village long before the tasting rooms arrived.

For a romantic weekend, that heritage is the point. Fourteen keys in the heart of Santa Ynez, two hours north of Los Angeles, steps from the tables and tasting rooms of wine country. A private reserve of quiet luxury, and a place to slow down together.

A Legacy in the Valley

The estate holds six suites in the main house and eight private bungalows across the grounds. Interiors are warm and considered, with four-poster beds, framed polo memorabilia, and marble baths with brass fixtures. Nothing here is formal. Refined design, relaxed luxury, curated and unpretentious. You can read the fuller story of the house on our about page.

Fourteen keys also means the property never feels busy. By the second morning, someone knows how you take your coffee.

Room to Breathe

The one decision worth making before you arrive is whether you would rather stay inside the house or beside it.

In the main house, Room 14 pairs a marble fireplace with a freestanding soaking tub and a covered balcony of rocking chairs above the oaks. Room 13 offers a wrap-around private terrace and an espresso machine, so the morning begins outdoors. Room 10 keeps a fireplace and garden-facing windows for the evening you choose not to leave. See all six suites.

The bungalows give you your own front door. Bungalow 8 is the most private on the estate, a King four-poster with a porch and rocking chairs set apart from the main house. Bungalow 7 is the historic tower, two bedrooms and a fireplace, for occasions that bring a few people with them. Bungalows 1 through 6 each hold a California King and a kitchenette, and they welcome dogs for a $75 fee per stay. Explore the eight bungalows.

Every Stay Includes

Daily breakfast prepared for our guests, with fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients. Specialty lattes and coffee drinks throughout the day. Drinks and snacks thoughtfully stocked in your room, with a comfort station in the lobby.

And in the evening, the Polo House Aperitif, our hosted gathering of local wines, charcuterie boards, flatbreads, pizza, and seasonal bites. It is the hour that gathers the house together before dinner, and the one most couples remember.

Every Corner, Considered

A cedar barrel sauna. The Wine Garden conservatory. A white gazebo at the end of the lawn. A stone fire pit with lounge seating, under a valley sky worth staying out for until the grounds settle for the night. Spa treatments can be arranged in your room, so an afternoon of rest asks nothing of you at all.

An Itinerary Composed for You

Tell us how you wish to spend your days, and our concierge will compose an itinerary made entirely for you.

That includes tasting passes at fifteen partner wineries, among them Artiste, Kalyra, Zaca Mesa, and Brick Barn. Tables at S.Y. Kitchen, Trattoria Grappolo, and the Hitching Post II. A vineyard ride with Vino Vaqueros, a morning flight with Sky’s The Limit Ballooning, a cycling tour through the vines, or a day with Solvang Wine Tours so neither of you drives. Share your dates on the activities page and arrive to a weekend already arranged.

Occasions Worth the Whole Estate

Proposals and anniversaries are familiar ground here. The gazebo, the Wine Garden at golden hour, and the fire pit after the house has gone quiet each make a setting, and the concierge can build the day around it. When the occasion asks for more than one room, the estate hosts micro-weddings, retreats, and full buyouts. Write to our team with your date.

At Home in Wine Country

A romantic weekend in the Santa Ynez Valley is not measured by how much you manage to see. It is measured by how completely you settle in.

Fourteen keys fill quickly on fall and holiday weekends, so four to eight weeks of notice is wise. See availability at Polo House Hotel and Bungalows.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 4:00 to 6:00 PM daily, and check-out is 10:00 AM. The front desk closes overnight, so let us know in advance if you will arrive after 6:00 PM. Early check-in and late check-out can sometimes be arranged, depending on availability.

Is breakfast included in the stay?

Yes. Every stay includes a homemade breakfast each morning, plus specialty coffee and lattes through the day, snacks and drinks in your room, and The Polo House Aperitif each evening with local wines, charcuterie boards, flatbreads, pizza, and seasonal bites. Room service is not available, and we are glad to accommodate dietary restrictions with 72 hours of notice. Non-registered guests may join you for breakfast with 24 hours of notice, at $30 per person.

Should we book a suite or a bungalow for a romantic weekend?

For a fireplace, a soaking tub, and a balcony over the oaks, book Room 14, or Room 13 for the wrap-around terrace and espresso machine. For a private front door, a porch, and a standalone cottage, book Bungalow 8. When family or friends join the occasion, Bungalow 7 holds two bedrooms and a fireplace in the historic tower.

Are pets allowed?

Pets are welcome in Bungalows 1 to 6 for a $75 fee per stay. They cannot be accommodated in Bungalows 7 and 8 or in Rooms 9 to 14. Properly licensed ADA service animals are welcome throughout the property and may not be left unattended in rooms. Emotional support and comfort animals are not accommodated.

Is the property wheelchair accessible?

The dining area, powder room, front porch, and one guest room are wheelchair accessible. The accessible room has a private entrance, a fully accessible bathroom, and dedicated parking.

What is the cancellation policy?

For individual reservations, the balance is due 21 days before check-in, after which it is non-refundable. For groups of four or more rooms, the balance is due 60 days before check-in. Cancellations made before the non-refundable date are refunded minus a 10% service fee per room and processing fees.

Can we add guests to the room?

Each additional adult is $50 per night, and each child ages 2 to 11 is $25 per night. Children under 2 stay free.

Are there quiet hours?

Quiet hours are 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM, and garden quiet hours begin at 8:00 PM. Exterior areas close at 9:00 PM and the garden at 8:00 PM. The entire property is smoke-free and vape-free, including the Wine Garden, balconies, porches, decks, parking areas, and guest rooms.

How far is Polo House from Los Angeles, and do we need a car?

Roughly two hours up the 101. A car gives you the freedom of the wineries, though staying on Sagunto Street means a full day and evening are walkable, and our concierge can arrange a guided wine tour so neither of you drives.

Can the concierge plan our days for us?

That is what we are here for, seven days a week from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM at (805) 362-0606 or polohouse@polohousehotel.com. Tell us how you wish to spend your days and we will compose the itinerary. More answers are on our FAQs page.
