For six weeks each winter, Solvang becomes a Danish Christmas village. Julefest 2026 runs from November 27, 2026 to January 3, 2027, and every evening light, music and snow fill Solvang Park. If you are wondering where to stay near Solvang for Christmas, our answer is a quiet one: stay seven minutes away, at Polo House in Santa Ynez.
We are fourteen keys in the walkable heart of the next town over: six suites in the main house and eight bungalows across the grounds. Close enough for the eight o’clock light show, and far enough that the evening goes still when you come home to a lit fire.
Near Solvang, Not in It
Rooms inside Solvang are spoken for early in the season, and the village stays lively well into the evening throughout Julefest. Staying one town over means you see every light and every snowfall, then return to a calm street, a wine garden and a breakfast made the next morning. You keep the magic of the village and lose only the crowd.
A House in the Heart of Santa Ynez
Polo House is a 14-key boutique retreat that draws its character from the storied tradition of California polo, a heritage of horses, open land and easy elegance that still defines the valley. Inside, that legacy is reimagined through warm, considered interiors: four-poster beds, framed polo memorabilia and marble baths. Nothing here is formal.
We sit among the restaurants and local shops of downtown Santa Ynez, at 1121 Edison Street and 3523 Sagunto Street, about two hours from Los Angeles. Fourteen keys also means the house never feels busy, even at the height of the season. By the second morning, someone knows how you take your coffee.
Room to Breathe
The one decision worth making before you arrive is whether you would rather stay inside the house or beside it.
Our rooms and suites are the six suites of the main house, above the lobby and the porch. Room 14 pairs a marble fireplace with a freestanding soaking tub and a covered balcony of rocking chairs over the oaks. Room 10 keeps a marble fireplace and garden-facing windows for the December evening you choose not to leave. Room 13 opens onto a wrap-around private terrace, with an espresso machine for the morning.
Our bungalows give you your own front door. Bungalow 7 is the historic tower, with a fireplace beside a four-poster King and a second bedroom of two Queens, sleeping six for a family Christmas. Bungalow 8 is a King with its own porch and rocking chairs, set apart from the main house. Bungalows 1 to 6 each hold a California King and a kitchenette, sleep up to four, and welcome dogs for a $75 fee per stay.
Every Stay Includes, Christmas Included
A homemade breakfast is made here every morning of your stay, Christmas morning among them, so nobody in your party cooks the holiday breakfast. Specialty coffee and lattes run all morning.
And each evening, the Polo House Aperitif: local wines from nearby vineyards alongside charcuterie boards, flatbreads, pizza and seasonal bites, served in the wine garden until it closes at eight. It is the hour that gathers the house together, and the reason nobody here arrives in Solvang hungry.
Every Corner, Considered
Several rooms have a fireplace, which is the one thing a December stay is truly about. Outside, a stone fire pit is lit after dark, and a cedar barrel sauna waits in the garden for a cold evening. The wine garden conservatory glows beneath the oaks, and the lobby of the main house stays warm and welcoming through the day.
A December Evening at the House
Check in between four and six, and light the fire if your room has one. Take the Aperitif in the wine garden as the light fades. Just before eight, drive the seven minutes to Solvang Park for ten minutes of light and music that end in snowfall over the park. Our Solvang Julefest 2026 guide has the full schedule.
By half past nine you are home again, at the fire pit or in the sauna, as the property settles into quiet hours from nine at night to nine in the morning. The next day begins with breakfast and specialty coffee, and whatever you choose after that, or nothing at all.
The Whole Family, Under One Roof
Christmas often brings more than two. Six suites and eight freestanding bungalows mean a large family can share one address without sharing a front door. Children ages 2 to 11 are $25 per night, children under 2 stay free, and each additional adult is $50 per night. To take several keys or the whole property, call us at (805) 362-0606 rather than booking room by room.
A Concierge for the Season
Tell us the plan, and it is arranged before you arrive. Our concierge holds Julefest candlelight tour tickets, which sell out, along with dinner tables on our street, tasting appointments across the valley and cars for the group. Write to us through our contact page or call the front desk, open every day from 7 am to 7 pm.
Book Before the Valley Does
Fourteen keys go quickly in December. Christmas, December 23 to 26, is one of the four stretches that sell out first, alongside Thanksgiving, the Tree Lighting weekend and New Year. For individual reservations the balance is due 21 days before check in, and 60 days for groups of four or more rooms.
Our holiday dates are gathered on our hotel near Solvang for Christmas page. Choose your nights, and let the season find you at Polo House.
